Launched on July 20th in the morning, the latest Autoblow features voice control, an oral sex library and adjustable thickness.
Autoblow has evolved a lot. It was introduced in 2008 by John McGill, and the original website described it as “the male sex toy of the future“.
“Technology has brought benefits to people in all aspects of life. We drive cars, fly planes, explore the internet. The technological advancement in sex toys for men is represented by Autoblow.”
Autoblow AI+ is the successor to Autoblow AI from 2018, a masturbator the size of a small wine can with rounded edges. You insert your penis into the sleeve and a ring powered by a small motor moves up and down along the penis in various speeds and movement patterns that you can change in an app. Like its predecessor, the Autoblow AI+ lacks artificial intelligence, but this model is at least connected to the internet and has a downloadable oral sex library, plus voice command.
Cock suckers are trailblazing in society’s view of sex toys. To keep the public interested, sex toy manufacturers have had to constantly add surprising qualities. The Autoblow has gone through all kinds of changes, even if some have been less than great, and McGill believes it’s the male sex toy of the future.
We tested its last variant in 2018, and now we received the latest model from McGill.
Testing Autoblow
The model I received has a clear plastic case, so you can see everything through: the Penis Gripper ring around a silicone sleeve that ends with a human silicone mouth. The product sent to customers will have a white plastic case, so the inside will not be visible.
After taking the toy out of the box, I tried to connect it to the Internet. Unlike other internet-connected sex toys like the Lovense or We-Vibe, the Autoblow AI+ does not have a downloadable app to control the device. It’s a deliberate choice on McGill’s part, because he didn’t want Google and the Apple Store to kick him off their platforms that strictly censor terms related to sexuality. So Autoblow AI+ uses a web app and it took me five minutes to install it properly. I plugged the toy in, turned it on, and held down the pause button until my phone detected a specific network in my WiFi settings, one generated by Autoblow. I had to connect to it, then to my home network, copy and save some characters that are the device password, then exit setup video.
It’s not hard, but you have to have a little patience. And since all the men in my life immediately throw away the instructions whenever they buy a new gadget, I doubt too many will keep them. On the other hand, we can’t underestimate guys who are into sex toys with complex technology.
After I finished setting up the toy, because I still didn’t know if it was safe for real penises, I used a very ripe banana.
As I tried to stuff the banana into the silicone mouth, I realized I needed lube. With lube, it went in like butter with very little effort.
I used several speeds and placed the ring closer to the base, then closer to the tip. As a ripe banana smell began to waft through the room, I thought maybe the toy had pulverized the banana. I took her out to check and found that she was intact, not even a bruise. Delighted, I put the banana back in for round two.
The new model has a voice command feature that is still under development. You can say six commands into the phone: Go, Pause, Faster, Slower, Next, Finish Me – I couldn’t help myself not to say this command with the voice from Mortal Kombat. This feature has small problems and the system does not understand the words from the first one. It was a new experience for me to scream at a sex toy “Turn on!” and “Faster!”. Not many toys have voice commands, but McGill is convinced that’s where the market is headed.
It didn’t feel sexy to shout those things, but really, I didn’t have my genital inside the toy. I felt like this:
While the banana was having fun in the machine, I watched a video about adjusting the Penis Gripper ring, which you can change the thickness of. The app warns you that it’s best to use voice commands in a room where it’s completely quiet. When I gave the Finish Me command, the machine began to masturbate the banana vigorously – theoretically, to orgasm.
But after it went into that mode, I couldn’t stop it. I yelled PAUSE! STOP! NO! and ignored me. My fingers were smeared with lubricant and I couldn’t turn it off even from the phone. I had to use the off button on the toy.
My partner walked into the room and said he thought I was arguing with someone on a Zoom meeting, only to find me screaming at a silicone mouth sucking a banana.
The development of Autoblow
I called McGill to tell him I’d been playing with his creation all morning. I also asked him some questions about her. He said that he has been working on the development of the new Autoblow variant throughout the pandemic. It’s quieter than the previous one, and the adjustable ring is something new in the industry and was even requested by his customers. The most interesting thing is that it can connect to the Internet. The last model, although it contained AI in the name, could not be connected.
And voice commands are the future of sex toys, says McGill.
“It’s a natural way to control masturbation without having to think about buttons,” he said. Commands don’t require an appellation, you don’t have to say “Hey, Autoblow” first for it to listen.
Besides the voice commands, the biggest improvement is the oral sex library. The app comes bundled with ten types of oral sex such as “Full Stroke” or “Teasing Slow Edge”, which are the result of the efforts of a team that collected 109 hours of oral sex clips from 1,200 videos to reproduce the movements of the respective materials. This new version allows users to download 17 different experiences in addition to the top ten.
Of all the nonsense surrounding sex toys for men, perhaps the most interesting thing about the Autoblow AI+ is that McGill refused to make an app for it on Google and the Apple Store, in protest of the discrimination of sexuality on those platforms. Google does not allow apps that promote sexual content, including pornography or sex services, and Apple prohibits sexual or pornographic material. These rules are a nightmare for sex workers and anyone trying to make sex education apps. So, McGill decided to avoid these platforms and make a web app.
“Sexuality is an important aspect of human life. It’s not some oddity practiced only by a few people. Sexual activity is a function of human beings. I find it gross that you can use a phone for anything, but not for sexual activities. I’m actually beyond their logic,” McGill said.
If he had developed an app for Apple or Google, he would have had to leave out terms like “blowjob” or “oral sex,” and that would have seemed like an unacceptable concession. “It would be remiss of me not to call things by their names, because words affect ideas, and ideas affect behavior. It’s a vicious cycle of not being able to call things as they are, and I refuse to participate in such a thing.”
This does mean that you need a little more patience to set up the toy, and that might put off some users. But it’s not such a complicated process. “We’re a little worried that a segment of the population won’t be in the mood to watch a five-minute how-to clip, but we’ll see after we launch how serious it is.”
Another problem would be the size of the toy. All the men I showed it to wondered how long they could keep it on their penis. McGill told me that he will also place a strap with which the toy can be supported. “You’d be surprised how hard it is to design for something that looks so simple,” McGill said.
Before you wonder how it will work in practice, remember that this is the same man who conceptualized the masturbation toy that gives you oral sex while driving.
